On the Paulins Path 2, Zagorje i Međimurje
The path of Paulins connects Paulins' monasteries which were centres of exceptional importance for Kaikavian culture and for the progress of the whole Kaikavian region in North Croatia through medieval times.
We divided it into two parts so you can explore it more conveniently - 1st part is in the West of Kaikavian region, and part #1 is in the Eastern Kaikavian region.

Gothic church

This beautiful gothic church in Remetinec at Novi Marof was built by Czech Ian Vitovec, who governed the estates of Celjski counts from Zagorje til Kostajnica in the Kingdom of Slavonia, i.e. todays in Kaikavian region.
The gothic church was built in the 2nd half of 15th century. There was a gothic monastery next to church, of which today a small part remains as a rectory (=kaikavian farof).

Chapel of St. Helena

The gothic chapel of St. Helena in Šenkovec has unique cultural and historical value due to its gothic frescos from 2nd half of 14th century.
Gothic frescos are rare in North Croatian, Kaikavian cultural region because in Turk-wars a lot of gothic heritage was destroyed.

Restaurant Barok

Restaurant Barok in Čakovec, Medjimurje, offers you traditional Kaikavian dishes from Medjimurje - meat from tiblica, pretepena-soup with sour and meat, prežgana-soup with eggs, home made žganci á la Medjimurje, as well as trgance. But their crazy good pizzas are the best in Medjimurje and not only Medjimruje, baken in wood oven. We recommend pizza Barok (but order it without ham, it already has dried ham and sausages) and Pollo e rucola.
They prepare others dishes as well, also roasted on lava-stones, all in nice rustical ambiente!
