The red heart is authentic and symbol of Kaikavian region, at the same time also a symbol of Croatia. The gingerbread heart is called licitar, and it can also have other shapes.
The name licit is Kaikaviazied german word Lebzelter which meant and still means exactly the gingerbread crafts which appeared in 16th. ct. in Central Europe, which includes also Kajkavian region. which was then a Kingdom called Slavonia.
Gingerbread making in Kaikavian region is tradicion, crafts, knowledge and cultural good which is because it is specifically Kaikavian, on the UNESCO List of Intangible Heritage of Humanity1. Gingerbread craftsmen also make honey-cookies and a tradicional Kaikavian drink called gverc or gvierc. Gvierc is sweet tasting, refreshing drink made with spices that might contain a little alcohol. It's name comes from German Gewürz, meaning spice!
