It is a gothic church from the 15h century on a hill above Lobor. It has an unbelievable history, in 9th century there stood a wooden old-Kaikavian church built under Carolingian christinization. But basicallly we can say, from the beggining of the new era, every two to three hundred years a new sacral building was built on this site!
The excavations are presented in situ and in a subterranean building. Don't miss this amazing trip through ages of sacral architecture!

  • 2. - 4. ctThere was a Roman temple dedidacted to goddess Diana or Magna Mater
  • 5. i 6. ct: The pagan goddes was thrown out (down the hill) and an early Christian church is built
  • 6. - 7. ct: At the end of 6th ct. ancestors of Kaikavians are settling in the area - they burn the early Christian church.
  • 9. ct:  A fort on the hill is rebuilt and a wooden church is constructed. This means that christianization of Kaikavian ancestors started in 9th century latest - from Aquilea. The wooden church is similar to wooden churches built in Bavaria at that time.
In the 9th ct. prince Ljudevit ruled the early-Kaikavian state Pannonia Inferior, who fights the Carolingians and their vasals Croats. A stone wattle that is typical for pre-romanic interval in areas under the influence of Aquilea and Carolingians was found on the siteYes, that means that in Croatian so called "Croatian wattle" exists also outside of early Croatian/Dalmatian state, including the early Kaikavian state of Ljudevit Pannonia Inferior, all the way to Carolingian area.
  • 10. - 13. ct.: Pre-romanic church - end of 9th  begin of 10th. until 12th ct.
  • 12. - 15. ct: Romanic church
  • 15. stoljeće: Gotic church (later newer elements are added, like baroque wall around the church)

1) It is scientifically correct to speak about early-Kaikavian state because a) linguists have proven that Kaikavian has developed its distinct features at the begin of 8th ct. in the area what will become Ljudevit's state 100 years later, b) according to archeologists, on the area of early-Kaikavian state there are no Croats until the 10th ct. c) all historic sources call Ljudevit's state "Pannonia inferior" as distinct from Croatian/Dalmatian lands in the south,
