Đurđevac is famous for its Picokiyada, a traditional cultural manifestation held every year at the end of June at the Old City castle. It is tradition held in memory of legendary defence of city of Djurdjevec in 16th. century, when it was still in Kaikavian kingdom Slavonia. The legend says that defenders shot a rooster from a cannon at the Turks, which was actually their last one, so Turks left in belief that Kaikavian defender still have a lot to eat.
The main part of the Picokiyada is artistic theatre play, which shows a part of the legend, open air at the Old City.
At the manifestation there are also traditional crafts, traditional village yards with the old way of living, and also two exhibitions: one of traditional cookies called "Diganke, zlevanke i prkači" and the other of delicacies made of chickens "Picoki po Piščoke".
This manifestation of traditional Kaikavian culture is because of its high value for whole Croatia on the list of immaterial cultural goods. It was also awarded the title of European Tourist Destination of Excellence1 in Intangible Heritage by EU Commission.
