Grebengrad castle, together with Medvedgrad, was a stronghold during Turk-wars from 15th to the begin of 18th ct. It was abandoned in 18th century when there was no more need for such a fortress. It is hidden among the hills of Ivanščica. Today it is mostly a ruin, but a ruin which is being restaurated.
On the way to Grebengrad you are rewarded with beatiful views over Zagorje towards Kalnik, and with traditional Kaikavian cottage houses.
Take a walk through the photo album, or even better, take a walk on the trail to Grebengrad. Below Grebengrad there is mountain hut Topličica, usually open for weekends.
For those who have a whole free day and a car, "over the hill" are castles Bela I i Bela II. So you can walk to Grebengrad from Madjarevo and back, then grab a car and go visit beautiful castles Bela I and II on the other side of Ivanščica.

We have created 2 detailed maps of the hiking-route to Grebengrad. First one is longer, the other shorter, but has less view and more forest. We did the 2nd route on our way back to Madjarevo.
The trail to Grebengrad is great mountainbike trail too, just take care that locals drive by car on weekends to the mountain hut!

From Grebengrad you can continue hiking to mountain hut of Pokojec or to the Čevo hill.
